Community Advocacy Programs

In addition to promotional video programs that educate and inspire the public about a charitable or service organization, Smith Hill also produces programs that help to bring important messages about social or environmental causes to targeted audiences.   With the combination of lively images, voices and music a video program can be a powerful complement to newspaper articles and public forums.  Video programs can help to gain support for local causes through distribution of DVDs or on an organization's website.  In our internet-oriented society there is now a tremendous opportunity for community advocacy groups to broadcast their message in low-cost or no-cost ways over the Web.  A local issue that formerly might have been seen in a town’s weekly newspaper by a handful of people can now engage the interest of millions around the globe.

Although many web videos are low-quality productions made with a home video camera, the most effective presentations are professionally produced and written to speak directly to their viewers in an informal and persuasive way. Smith Hill can convert programs for use in a group’s own website or on global sites such as YouTube.

Community Stories

In these fast-moving times there has been an increasing interest in preserving the events and memories of the older generation before they are lost.  In the same way families want to research their ancestry, communities have a desire to document the landscape, the memories and the events that have shaped their towns.  We have produced programs that weave together archival materials and the personal accounts of local elders to bring a town’s history to life; other Smith Hill programs have documented a modern-day community barn raising and captured a typical week in the life of a local church.
