Client: ShhAir (Safeguarding the Historic Hanscom Area's Irreplaceable Resources)
Length: 15 minutes
A citizens' action group asked us to help them get out their message that expansion of Hanscom Civilian Airport was a threat to the rich historic area of Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts.
To dramatize the effect of increased air pollution and noise on over 1000 historic sites, we shot a dramatic opening scene in Henry David Thoreau's cabin at Walden Pond. Scenes of commercial jets and traffic contrasted with images of some of America's most treasured places. Interviews with national historians and political figures furnished credibility to the urgency of the problem.
The program was premiered at a fund-raising event held at the Museum of Our National Heritage in Lexington, copies were sent to hundreds of Social Studies teachers and American history professors at high schools, universities and colleges around the country and distributed at the annual conference of the National Association of American Historians. Copies of the program were also sent to key policy makers, state lawmakers and historical organizations as part of ShhAir's campaign to raise awareness and garner support for their cause. |
